OpenLife reports that Nollywood actor Aremu Afolayan has officially stepped away from EKO 57, the political support group he was associated with, following widespread criticism over his recent statements about politics.

The controversy erupted after Afolayan publicly expressed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, remarks that many Nigerians interpreted as insensitive to the nation’s economic and security challenges.

The backlash on social media was immediate, with many users accusing the actor of being out of touch with ordinary citizens’ struggles.

Responding to the criticism, Afolayan issued a public apology, clarifying that his comments were misunderstood and expressing regret for any offense caused.

In the midst of the online storm, Adams “Lege Miami” Kehinde, a leading figure in EKO 57, intervened to protect the actor.

In a video message, he stated:
“Aremu Afolayan is no longer a member of EKO 57. Please stop bully!ng him. If you want to bul*y anybody, come and bully me or my members. Leave him alone.”

Lege Miami emphasized that Afolayan’s exit was meant to ease tensions, not to punish him, and urged followers to direct criticism at the group’s leadership if necessary.

The development shows the challenges public figures face when commenting on political matters and highlights the responsibility of both celebrities and their supporters in managing online discourse
