After Months Of Bitter Exchanges, Governor Soludo Makes Confessions About Peter Obi

After Months Of Bitter Exchanges

OpenLife News reports that Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has finally opened up on his real relationship with former governor Peter Obi, months after their bitter political exchanges shook Anambra politics.

In a rare confession, months after bitter exchanges, Soludo  confirmed that wife of former governor Peter Obi is godmother of one of his children, months after public disagreement over relationship between their families.

Soludo also disclosed that his wife, Nonye, is confirmation godmother of Obi’s daughter, clarifying family relationship that became subject of public discussion in September.

The governor made disclosure in interview with BBC News Igbo on Monday, describing Obi as close friend and insisting that their families remained on good terms despite their political differences.

Soludo: Peter Obi And I Are Good Friends, Our Families Are On Good Terms

“Peter Obi and I are good friends. Our two families are on good terms. His wife was the godmother of my child at baptism, and my wife was the godmother of his child at confirmation,” he said.

Soludo explained that their differences were political, particularly over their preferences for who should govern Anambra State.

He said he did not hold Obi’s political position against him, despite their disagreement over state’s leadership.

“I have a different vision of who should be governor of Anambra State. I am contesting, and he supported whoever he felt should be governor. I prevailed by the grace of God, and I don’t hold it against him,” the governor said.

Why Soludo And Peter Obi Fell Out

Recall that Soludo and Obi, both former governors of Anambra, had been embroiled in months of bitter exchanges ahead of 2025 Anambra governorship election.

The rift deepened when Soludo dismissed Obi’s investments in Anambra as worthless, while Obi’s supporters accused Soludo of betraying Igbo interest.

The family godmother controversy started in September when social media users questioned whether both families were still close after political attacks.

With Soludo’s confession on BBC Igbo, governor has now laid to rest rumours of family feud.

What Soludo’s Confession Means For 2027

Political analysts say Soludo’s soft tone towards Peter Obi may be strategic ahead of 2027 general elections, as both leaders are key figures in South-East politics.

Soludo, who is of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), is seen as close to APC-led federal government, while Peter Obi is presidential candidate of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) with massive followership among Igbo youths.

His statement that he doesn’t hold Obi’s political position against him suggests possible realignment in Anambra politics after governorship election.
