How Adeleke Failed On Day Of Success Over Insensitivity To The Dead As NDC, Human Rights Activist Kick Against Hasty Endorsement Of Tinubu’s 2027

How Adeleke Failed On Day Of Success

OpenLife News reports that Governor Ademola Adeleke is facing criticism from the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, and human rights activist Richard Akinnola over what they described as insensitivity and a “hasty” endorsement of President Bola Tinubu for 2027, barely 48 hours after his re-election in Osun State.

The backlash comes despite widespread commendation of Adeleke’s victory in last Saturday’s Osun governorship election.

NDC Hails Osun Victory, Faults 2027 Endorsement

The NDC described Adeleke’s re-election as a “victory for democracy” and proof that the people could resist “tyranny” and “civilian dictatorship.”

Speaking in a statement, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, commended Osun voters for insisting that their votes count.

“The victory of the Accord Party in the Osun State governorship election is a victory for democracy. It is a triumph of the people’s will over any authoritarian leadership.

“It is a befitting crowning of the dogged efforts of the great people of Osun who resisted tyranny, who resisted civilian dictatorship, who resisted oppression,” Director said.

He also praised Adeleke for standing firm in his re-election bid. However, he faulted the governor’s early promise to “deliver Osun” to President Tinubu in 2027.

“I am surprised that Adeleke is promising to deliver Osun to President Bola Tinubu come 2027 presidential election. I think that is too hasty of him to say.

“He shows our elitist disposition. Political elites and ruling class are usually concerned about themselves,”
Director said.

The NDC spokesman questioned whether the endorsement was consistent with the sacrifices made during the election, referencing supporters who allegedly lost their lives.

“If you think of those who died in the process to ensure that he gets the victory he desired, is he saying that they should die in vain?”

Director urged Adeleke to allow Osun people to decide in 2027, noting that the election result showed even “federal might” could not dictate voters’ choices.

You’re Putting The Cart Before The Horse – Richard Akinnola

Human rights activist, Richard Akinnola, also issued a stern caution to the governor in a statement titled  A Word Of Caution For Adeleke,” Akinnola accused Adeleke of insensitivity for prioritizing political alignment with Abuja over mourning victims of pre-election violence.

“Governor Ademola Adeleke, watch this your post-victory political dance with Abuja. You are putting the cart before the horse,” he wrote on his Facebook wall Monday afternoon

The former Vanguard Newspaper Editor  referenced reports of about 30 people killed in pre-election violence, the arrest of the SSG, harassment of the Speaker, and attacks on Adeleke’s supporters.

“I had thought the first thing you should do was to ask the police to thoroughly investigate these killings and for you to commiserate with the families of these victims. That should be your priority and not your allegiance to the president’s re-election which is still five months away,” Akinnola stated.

He described Adeleke’s stance as “approbating and reprobating at the same time,” asking if the governor’s earlier cries of assault on his supporters were “a false flag.”

“Mr Governor, I’m disappointed,” Akinnola lamented.

NDC Commends INEC, Demands Same Standard in 2027

While criticizing Adeleke, the NDC commended  INEC for the conduct of the Osun poll and urged the commission to sustain the transparency.

“I hope this is not going to be a flash in the pan on the part of INEC to make us lose our guards and think that come 2027 it will be this transparent. We are going to hold them to account to live up to this standard,” Director said.

He added that Nigerians expect the 2027 presidential election to be “transparent, participatory and credible.”
