Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU’s demands for N110 billion Revitalisation fund cannot be met, at least, for now
OpenLife reports that the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, may have to wait a while before their demands for N110 billion Revitalisation fund can be looked into.
This is the position of the federal government of Nigeria during in a meeting on Thursday with the Union.
The federal government’s position was conveyed to the academic union by Dr Chris Ngige, Minister of Labour and Productivity.
The meeting had been conveyed to deliberate for resolution on ASUU’s demands from the federal government.
Amongst the demands were N110b Revitalisation Fund; N30b Earned Allowance and review of the Integrated Personnel Payroll System IPPS.
The government however, stated that it is incapable of meeting these demands due largly to dwindling resources coupled with the outbreak of pandemic.
But as a remedy, the federal government, about two weeks back, released N30 billion as Earned Allowance for varsity workers and N20 billion for the Revitalisation of the universities.
To ASUU, that is just a drop in the ocean.
The Wednesday’s meeting which was expected to resolves the issues and pave the way for resumption of academic activities ended in a deadlock.
