Ogun State governor, Dapo Abiodun has Promised  to arrest  residents that violate the use of face mask in the state from 1st of May, 2020.

He made this statement during a briefing with the journalist on the update of COVID-19 in the state at his residence in Iperu.

He stressed that   that the reason for the implementation of face mask is to ensure prevention of the spread of COVID-19 in the state.

He urged every resident to ensure they wear face mask so as to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the state.

He said, “on the issue of violation of face masks order, I think by the time we are about to implement this face mask order, then I will begin to rule out what the punishment for violators would be.

“But, be rest assured that we would arrest you if you don’t wear a face mask. In fact, when we arrest you, we would take you to an isolation centres because we would believe that you want to intentionally inflict or afflict someone with COVID-19 that is not why you are not wearing face mask.

“We would isolate you for 14 days during which we would make you do community service. So, in your best interest, please ensure that when you are going out you wear your face mask.”

The governor added, “let me add that with the reality facing us, the use of face mask in public by all individuals in Ogun state is now compulsory as from Friday 1st of May, 2020.

“From Friday, wearing of face mask will be now compulsory. We would also begin the distribution of something we would add in addition to other materials that would be distributed across the state

.“We as government will provide between one to two million face mask and we would made it available to those that we believe cannot afford it, but who need to go out and carry out the essential businesses.”
