OpenLife News reports that Yobe State Police Command has intensified efforts to sustain peace in Garin Alkali, Bursari Local Government Area, following a recent clash between farmers and Fulani herders that reportedly claimed lives.
The Commissioner of Police, Yobe State Command, CP Usman Kanfani Jibrin, on Saturday, 17th October 2026, convened a stakeholders and community engagement meeting at the Garin Alkali Divisional Police Headquarters to prevent further hostilities.
The meeting brought together Chairmen of Bursari, Bade and Jakusko LGAs, District Heads, Village Heads, leaders of farmers and Fulani herders, the Yobe State Chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, and PCRC Chairmen of Bursari and Jakusko LGAs, among others.
Addressing the gathering, CP Kanfani emphasised the need for peaceful coexistence and mutual respect, noting that dialogue remains critical to resolving disputes.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Yusuf Adamu Aliyu, the CP “strongly cautioned both parties against taking the law into their own hands, retaliatory attacks or any actions capable of escalating tensions.”
The PPRO quoted the Commissioner as urging residents to “promptly report grievances, threats and suspicious activities to the Police or other appropriate authorities for timely intervention.”
CP Kanfani also called on traditional rulers, local government authorities and community leaders to intensify grassroots sensitisation, promote dialogue and discourage the carrying of dangerous weapons.
In their responses, leaders of both farmers and herders pledged to maintain peace and caution their members against acts capable of provoking further violence.
They thanked the CP for engaging directly with the community.
The Command, in a statement signed by ASP Yusuf Adamu Aliyu, PPRO, for the Commissioner of Police, urged residents of Garin Alkali and neighbouring communities to “sustain the prevailing calm, reject rumours and inflammatory statements, and cooperate with security agencies in maintaining peace.”
