Speaker Obasa Tasks Civil Defence, Journalists On Nigeria’s Progress

<p><em>Speaker Obasa Mudashiru of Lagos State House of Assembly has tasked media and security agents on commitment to Nigeria’s progress<&sol;em><br &sol;>&NewLine;<strong><a href&equals;"https&colon;&sol;&sol;openlife&period;ng&sol;">OpenLife Nigeria<&sol;a><&sol;strong> reports that the <strong>Speaker<&sol;strong> of the Lagos State House of Assembly&comma; Rt&period; Hon&period; Mudashiru Obasa&comma; has named the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps &lpar;NSCDC&rpar; as well as journalists as major Stakehokders in the development of the country&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>Obasa made this position known on Tueaday when the two organisations paid him separate visits&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>Speaking when he received the NSCDC officers led by the Commandant in Lagos&comma; Ayeni Paul Kolawole&comma; Obasa said the security agency is as important as the government that established it&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>The Speaker urged the security body to remain dedicated in their service to Lagos state and the country&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>He also tasked the personnel of the agency to constantly endear themselves to the residents of the state and the country while approaching their duties with human face&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>&&num;8220&semi;I urge you to keep looking out for our people&comma; be more friendly to them&semi; this way your job as a security agency will be easier&comma;&&num;8221&semi; Obasa said&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>Earlier&comma; Commandant Ayeni had pledged the agency&&num;8217&semi;s commitment to the peace of the state adding that the Lagos government had been of immense assistance to the security organisation&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>He&comma; however&comma; appealed that the body be considered in relation to the laws of <a href&equals;"https&colon;&sol;&sol;openlife&period;ng&sol;">Lagos&period;<&sol;a><&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>Meanwhile&comma; Obasa has described journalism as an integral part of a country&&num;8217&semi;s success&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>Receiving officials of the Nigerian Union of Journalists &lpar;NUJ&rpar; led by its chairman in Lagos&comma; Obasa noted the important roles placed on the shoulders of practitioners&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>He&comma; however&comma; urged the body to conduct self-sanitisation so as to help the profession combat fake news and other forms of challenges the professional media practitioners now face at this time of the country&&num;8217&semi;s journey&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>&nbsp&semi;<&sol;p>&NewLine;

Nollywood Actress, Shine Rosman, Raises Alarm Over Alleged Sexual Harassment In Lagos OpenLife reports that Nollywood actress Shine Rosman has spoken about what she describes as ongoing incidents of sexual harassment affecting women in parts of Lagos, particularly in Yaba. She said the issue is widely known among residents but remains unaddressed. “Do you know how bad sexual harrssment is in Lagos? Like go to Yaba, as a girl and see how you will be touched inappropriately. Everybody hearing this knows that it is true. But till today, nothing is being done about it.” She described what she claims are repeated incidents of inappropriate contact in public spaces without consequences for those responsible. “You’re walking in Yaba and people are touching you inappropriately and nothing will happen.” Rosman questioned the absence of effective intervention and raised concerns about personal safety in such environments. “If the government is not going to do anything, is it not ok for us to defend ourselves? In 2026, in a country like Nigeria, s+xual har+ssment is still one of the most passive things.” She also raised concerns about the implications of such behaviour occurring in open public spaces. “If a man can s+xually h+rass you casually during the day, what do you think he can do behind closed doors when no one is looking?”. The comments were made during an interview with Tolu Afilaka, where she discussed women’s safety in public areas of Lagos.
