With over 200 million inhabitants in Nigeria, one of the major societal issues that seem yet to be solved is the issue of broken marriages and relationships which grieves the minds of young Nigerians who would want to delve into that phase of life with the fears of what will befall their marriages and relationships looking at the current societal degradation.
Marriage is as old as Man itself and it is a union between two persons from different background sometimes different culture, race and tribe. Here are some notable reasons especially in Nigeria why marriages don’t last up to two years

Infidelity
Infidelity is regarded as a major and significant reason why marriages crash in Nigeria.
It starts from the withdrawal of affection to actual sexual involvement with someone else outside the marriage, sometimes infidelity could be biological or social.

Lack of attentive communication

Communication is regarded as the basis of a good and healthy relationship and once it is broken, it leads to misunderstanding and differences in opinion.
The communicative ability between the man and woman is different so both partners need to be attentive to body languages, gestures as these are means of relaying messages, feelings, opinions etc.

Poor Temperament management and understanding
Temperament forms our being as humans thus it defines our personality. When two individuals from different background come together in marriage, there should be patience and ability to manage one another’s temperament especially in cases of heated conversation, argument and misunderstanding.

Negligence of duty
This can also double as failure to carry out ones responsibility either as a wife or a husband. It is known that the husband is seen as the head of the home therefore he provides for his family (financial, health, security and shelter) with the support of his wife.
Most marriages crash because the husband or wife failed to take responsibility of their duties.
Secondly, sexual affections and affiliations is also a duty in marriages and if being denied, it is seen as negligence of duty and this also leads to broken marriages

Insecurity and selfishness
Insecurity is an inner feeling of being threaten in some ways, thus having irrational thoughts and fears towards ones parties and this could lead to funny thoughts, actions or imaginations and if not properly handled would lead to the wreckage of the marriage
