2023 Presidency: Like Tinubu, Jonathan Consolidates In The North

<p><em>2023 Presidency propels the north as the bride<&sol;em><br &sol;>&NewLine;<strong><a href&equals;"https&colon;&sol;&sol;openlife&period;ng&sol;">OpenLife Nigeria<&sol;a> <&sol;strong>reports that as the 2023 presidency draws closer&comma; aspirants for the highest office in Nigeria are congregating to have an edge in the race&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;There are 18 registered political parties in Nigeria&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;The mood at the moment indicates that all the political parties are warming up to field presidential candidates in the 2023 presidency&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;Just before Easter celebrations&comma; Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu&comma; former governor of Lagos State and national leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress&comma; APC&comma; took a tour round the northern part of Nigeria in a show of one Nigeria&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;Beginning from Katsina&comma; Tinubu doled out a whopping N50 million to support market women whose wares got burnt in the State&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;He proceeded to Kaduna to deliver lecture and rounded off the three-leg tour with a 69th birthday bash in Kano where he was received by Emir Ado Bayero and governor <a href&equals;"https&colon;&sol;&sol;punchng&period;com&sol;">Abdulahi Ganduje<&sol;a>&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan who is rumoured to be interested in the <strong>2023<&sol;strong> Presidency on the platform of APC&comma; on Tuesday&comma; was received in Bauchi State by both the governor&comma; Mallam Bala Mohammed and the Emir of Bauchi Dr&period; Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu in a carnival like event&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;&OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;The whole Bauchi State was agog today&period; It was obvious that an important dignitary was in town&period; It was like a carnival&period; Signs of 2023 presidency were very obvious&comma;” <a href&equals;"https&colon;&sol;&sol;openlife&period;ng&sol;">OpenLife<&sol;a> was told&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;In a personal narrative by Jonathan&comma; he wrote&colon;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>&OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;I am grateful to the Government and the good people of Bauchi State for naming the <a href&equals;"https&colon;&sol;&sol;www&period;washingtonpost&period;com&sol;">Sabon Kaura to Miri Road<&sol;a> after me&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>&OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;Today&comma; I joined the State Governor&comma; Senator Bala Mohamed and other distinguished sons and daughters of the state at the official commissioning of the Goodluck Jonathan Bye Pass&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;&OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;I am pleased that the Governor is implementing people-oriented projects with the aim of improving the lives of the citizens&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>&OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;I thank the Emir of Bauchi Dr&period; Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu and members of Bauchi Emirates Council for the warm reception and for conferring on me the title of Jigon Bauchi during the visit&comma;” he appreciated&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;Those who understand how politics is played in Nigeria with clear idea of where the pendulum would swing said the north would be the factor to be factorised by any interested aspirant from the south in the 2023 presidency&comma; a reason for the show of strength and solidarity by both Jonathan and Tinubu in the past few weeks&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;

She said the issue is widely known among residents but remains unaddressed. “Do you know how bad sexual harrssment is in Lagos? Like go to Yaba, as a girl and see how you will be touched inappropriately. Everybody hearing this knows that it is true. But till today, nothing is being done about it.” She described what she claims are repeated incidents of inappropriate contact in public spaces without consequences for those responsible. “You’re walking in Yaba and people are touching you inappropriately and nothing will happen.” Rosman questioned the absence of effective intervention and raised concerns about personal safety in such environments. “If the government is not going to do anything, is it not ok for us to defend ourselves? In 2026, in a country like Nigeria, s+xual har+ssment is still one of the most passive things.” She also raised concerns about the implications of such behaviour occurring in open public spaces. “If a man can s+xually h+rass you casually during the day, what do you think he can do behind closed doors when no one is looking?”. The comments were made during an interview with Tolu Afilaka, where she discussed women’s safety in public areas of Lagos.
