OpenLife Nigeria reports that in what seems a declared battle ahead 2023 general elections, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Saturday, shunned governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State in Makurdi.
According to the narratives, a visibly angry Governor Ortom who has described the experience as politics taken too far, said he was at the Airforce Base to officially receive the Vice President based on an earlier noticed sent to him.
According to the governor, the letter addressed to him from the State House Abuja was dated 10th February, 2022 with reference number VP/SP/DOP/26 and titled: “Visit of His Excellency, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, GCON, Vice President, Federal Republic of Nigeria to Wukari, Taraba State transiting NAF Base, Makurdi, on Saturday, 12th February, 2022”.
Armed with this official notice, he went to the Airforce Base on Saturday, but was stopped by security agents from gaining entrance to the Tactical Command to receive the VP.
The governor who condemned the action of the airport security said it was not clear if the vice president was aware of the governor’s visit to the base to receive him.
The governor while briefing reporters said the presidency has taken politics too far.
He described the action by the security personnel as unacceptable and a breach of protocol.
He expressed regrets that he had set out to attend the burial of Professor Ignatius Ayua but had to delegate his deputy in order to receive the Vice President.
