Yobe NUJ Chairman, Comrade Rajab Mohammed, Tasks Army On Media Relations

Yobe NUJ Chairman charges Army to consolidate media relations
OpenLife Nigeria reports that the Yobe State Chapter Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Comrade Rajab Mohammed, has tasked the Nigerian Army to consolidate and strengthen its relationship with the media in the overall struggle against crime and insurgency.
Rajab Mohammed gave this charge while on a courtesy visits to the Commander Sector 2 Operation Lafiya Dole, Brig. Gen. Adam Nura in Damaturu, recently.
In a report by Hamisu Ado Nguru, Team Leader, Yobe Chapter of the National Association of Online Security Reporters, NAOSRE, Rajab Mohammed commended the military for dislodging Boko Haram elements that hitherto occupied villages and towns in Yobe State.
The Yobe NUJ Chairman  called on the Army to establish a good working relationship with the press for professional education of citizens on the effective counter-insurgency operations in the Northeast.

He also intimated the commander on the intention of the NUJ in collaboration with the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria to organize a media game intended towards peace building in the state.

Responding, the Commander informed the chairman that the military does not compromise in their operations especially when it touches on National Security.
Nura added that, “There are times that you journalist tell us that you are reporting for public interest.
“We the military are knowledgeable enough to understand certain issues of public interest, but when it comes to national security, we do not compromise.
“In fact, nobody has any reason to support terrorism and the army with all its resources will clamp down on such an individual or group.
” Journalists all over the globe are dependable ally to the military successes,” he emphasized.

The Army commander commended journalists for their role in informing the people about the ongoing fight against Boko Haram in the North East region
