Yakubu Steps Down As Mu’azu Becomes INEC Ag. Chairman

<p><strong>AVM Ahmed Mu’azu &lpar;retd&period;&rpar; has been appointed as INEC Acting&period; Chairman pending Yakubu&&num;8217&semi;s reappointed as the Commission Chairman&period; <&sol;strong><&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>&nbsp&semi;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>&nbsp&semi;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p><strong><a href&equals;"https&colon;&sol;&sol;openlife&period;ng&sol;">OpenLife Nigeria<&sol;a><&sol;strong> reports that pending the determination of his nomination for reappointment as the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission &lpar;INEC&rpar;&comma; Professor Mahmood Yakubu&comma; on Monday named AVM Ahmed Mu’azu &lpar;retd&period;&rpar; as Acting Chairman for the commission&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>&nbsp&semi;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>&nbsp&semi;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>This online news medium understands that Yakubu’s five-year tenure ended on Monday&comma; following his appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari in November 2015&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>&nbsp&semi;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>At a handover ceremony&comma; Prof&period; Yakubu noted that it will be inappropriate for him to remain in office beyond November 9&comma; 2020&comma; without confirmation by the Senate and swearing to another oath of office&comma; as provided for by extant law&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>&nbsp&semi;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>In his words&comma;  <em>&OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;You may recall that the current commission was inaugurated in three batches&period; The Chairman and five Commissioners were sworn in on November 9&comma; 2015&comma; followed by another six Commissioners on December 7&comma; 2016&comma; and one more Commissioner on July 21&comma; 2018&period;<&sol;em><&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>&nbsp&semi;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p><em>&OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;The commission is a constitutional body whose members are appointed for five years&comma; which may be renewed for a second and final term&period; This means that my tenure and that of the first set of five commissioners ends today&period;”<&sol;em><&sol;p>&NewLine;

Nollywood Actress, Shine Rosman, Raises Alarm Over Alleged Sexual Harassment In Lagos OpenLife reports that Nollywood actress Shine Rosman has spoken about what she describes as ongoing incidents of sexual harassment affecting women in parts of Lagos, particularly in Yaba. She said the issue is widely known among residents but remains unaddressed. “Do you know how bad sexual harrssment is in Lagos? Like go to Yaba, as a girl and see how you will be touched inappropriately. Everybody hearing this knows that it is true. But till today, nothing is being done about it.” She described what she claims are repeated incidents of inappropriate contact in public spaces without consequences for those responsible. “You’re walking in Yaba and people are touching you inappropriately and nothing will happen.” Rosman questioned the absence of effective intervention and raised concerns about personal safety in such environments. “If the government is not going to do anything, is it not ok for us to defend ourselves? In 2026, in a country like Nigeria, s+xual har+ssment is still one of the most passive things.” She also raised concerns about the implications of such behaviour occurring in open public spaces. “If a man can s+xually h+rass you casually during the day, what do you think he can do behind closed doors when no one is looking?”. The comments were made during an interview with Tolu Afilaka, where she discussed women’s safety in public areas of Lagos.
