OpenLife Nigeria reports that even though Prince Bassey Edet Otu may have emerged as Cross River State Governor-Elect, expectations that the State would enjoy economic rebound may just be a pipe dream, given the emerging signals of his political hallelujah.
Mr Otu, 63, a former federal lawmaker, won in 15 of the 18 local government areas of the state on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the 18 March election.
This likely worse scenario in Cross River was the observation of a social media influencer, identified as Peter Ayim.
Ayim, in a response to Agba Jalingo’s admonition to Otu on the basis of intelligent selection of cabinet team, sounded worry that even with Otu, the expected eldorado may be far from actualization in Cross River State.
Peter Ayim said he dislikes pretentious philosophy in which folks patronize deception.
He expressed doubts about Otu, saying he may just be at the beck and call of influential godfathers at the expense of all inclusive development of the State.
Ayim said:
“Sorry to say this, I doubt if Otu will be different in terms of dishing out appointments unnecessarily, because of the sources where he became a governor. There are documents, pacts, agreements he must have signed or entered with the present administration before he was given the ticket and supported massively, financially and otherwise.
Immediately I saw Otu and wife in London partying, celebrating birthday I knew that this one can easily compromise and manipulated. I was told the trip was sponsored by some Cross River State APC Cabals. Agreeing to such trip shows that he will be doing some of these cabals’ biddings.
It’s against this background that some APC Cabals from Yala local government area are bragging that they will give massive appointments to their supporters in the next government.
I pray we don’t have SA on Birthday, Wedding, Burial and other chop chop gathering in the next government because they seems to like too much enjoyment,” Ayim stated.
Meanwhile, Agba Jalingo, in a rare advice, has told the governor elect to be sensitive to various lobbyist groups, masquerading as supporters, loyalists and friends .
He noted that as Prince Otu prepares to take over from the outgoing Governor Ben Ayade, in 43 days time, it is noteworthy that there is a multitude of both those who are working in the outgoing administration and another embellished and excited horde of “it is our turn” incomers, who are pressuring Prince Otu, in the hope of getting a chance to work in his government.
Agba emphasized that for most of these people, this rush is not because they want such government appointments or access to the incoming governor, for the development of their communities.
” It is actually to give them the status and money to go back to their communities to tilt their shoulders up.”
Jalingo added that:
“I’ve asked one of the persons lobbying, what will getting into Prince Otu’s government do for his people, he rather told me, “an appointment will give me POWER and make me a political leader in my Ward with Authority. It will also improve my CV. I have been oppressed for too long. It’s our turn.
And he is not the only one thinking like that. There are hundreds of them who are on this hussle who know that their interest in getting into the next government isn’t to go and serve. It’s for preservation. The question arising therefrom is, why on God’s green Earth, will people desire government positions when they know they cannot serve?
Part of the inability to measure the success of the outgoing governor favorably is his penchant for populating his government with people who have no offices, job description or even expected deliverables. Yours sincerely, will continue to warn that we must not tow that infamous path again,” Citizen Agba Jalingo said.
