Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, recently made an appearance on the Brekete Family Radio show.
At the show, the former Anambra governor explained the major reason he carries activist Aisha Yesufu around everywhere he goes.
Obi stated that he needs people around him who can give him an honest and true perspective on the challenges facing Nigeria and what people really think about his political ambition.
During the radio show, the co-host of the program read out comments made by Nigerians about a post related to Obi on their social media platforms, some of the comments were positive and some negative.
However, in his reaction to the comments, Obi stated that he is not particularly interested in the positive comments, but is more interested in hearing the negative things people have to say to him.
He believes that these negative comments serve as a guide for him on what he is doing wrong as a leader and help him seek ways to make amends or redress.
Obi also highlighted that this is one of the reasons he carries Yesufu everywhere he goes because she is one of the people who speaks truth to power without mincing words.
He believes that having someone around who can provide an honest and unbiased perspective is essential for a leader to make informed decisions.
He stated, “I want to hear negative ones (comments) because you learn from the negative ones. I always want to hear the bad ones, that is why I move around with Aisha (pointing at Aisha Yesufu seated among the crowd).”
In her response to the video post made on Twitter, Yesufu informed a Tweep that it is her job to speak truth to power, and that she is always on the Obidient train to do so.
She stated “That is my job oooh! I am not there to do ‘Your Excellency, your excellency’ My job is to keep telling him what the people are going through and in fairness him he asks me to always tell him the things he is not getting right.”
