OpenLife Nigeria reports that the whereabouts of the suspended Central Bank governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, is currently unknown.
This has caused anxiety in his home town, Agbor, Delta State.
The federal government had suspended Emefiele on Friday night in a statement by Willie Bassey, Director of Information it the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
“The CBN Governor’s suspension is a sequel to the ongoing investigation of his office and the planned reforms in the economy’s financial sector,” the statement said.
The statement further stated that Mr Emefiele has been directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), who will act as the Central Bank Governor pending the conclusion of the investigation and the reforms.
As a follow of the federal government investigation of the CBN, secret service operatives, DSS, were reported to have stormed his home and arrested him.
But the, DSS, on Saturday, denied arresting the suspended Central Bank of Nigeria Governor,
The DSS, in a tweet simply said: “Currently, Emefiele is not with the DSS.”
This has caused organic confusion in the system especially among his kinsmen.
Speaking to OpenLife Saturday afternoon, a former legislator from Ika, the home stead of Emefiele said, “We are monitoring the event. Nobody knows where he is .Nobody knows if he is still alive. If government finds him wanting in the course of his duty, he should be treated transparently. I am a former legislator and I know the law. We want to know where he is. If government refuses to disclose his whereabouts before night fall, we will raise the alarm,” he threatened.
