OpenLife Nigeria reports that Chief Emeka Anyaoku, GCON, former Commonwealth Secretary-General, has offered useful tips to the executive governor of Anambra State on longevity.

The advice came during the traditional new year visit to the elder statesman by governor Soludo.
Receiving him at his Obosi country home in Anambra State on January 3, 2025, an obviously elated governor Soludo enthused

“Good morning.Happy new year. As always, my prayer is that  when I grow up, I will like to be like you.”

In a quick response, Chief Anyaoku assured Soludo of longevity on the condition that “You will be,” he stated.

The elder statement added a caveat “As long as you live as carefully as I am.”

After the visit, Soludo noted that: “I have immense respect for Chief Anyaoku’s guidance and wisdom, gained from his incredible journey as a diplomat and statesman.

“His contributions to Anambra, Nigeria, Africa, and the global community are truly inspiring.
“As we begin this new year, I’m grateful for leaders like Chief Anyaoku who continue to inspire us with their selfless service and dedication to the greater good.

“May Anambra continue to win,” the governor who is seeking a 2nd tenure in office, prayed.

Born in Obosi, 18 January, 1933, Chief Emeka Anyaoku is a Nigerian diplomat of Igbo descent.
He was the third Commonwealth Secretary-General.

Anyaoku was educated at Merchants of Light School, Oba, and attended the University College of Ibadan, then a college of the University of London, from which he obtained an honours degree in Classics as a College Scholar.

Aside from his international career, Chief Anyaoku continues to fulfill the duties of his office as Ichie Adazie of Obosi, a traditional Ndichie chieftainship.
