To many Nigerians, the time and season are not auspicious for agricultural business in view of the prevailing insecurity in bush and farmlands allegedly perpetrated by Fulani herdsmen and Boko Haram renegades.
Stories have been told over the years how farmers are either killed or kidnapped in various farm settlements. Chief Olu Falae’s kidnap in September 2015 at his farm in Akur, Ondo State, remains an example.
But Ayoola Fatona, Head, Agriculture and Micro Insurance of Leadway Assurance says there is nothing to worry about as the insurance company has covers for all risks in agricultural operations.
He stated this on Friday, August 16 at Wheatbaker Hotel, Ikoyi at a conference themed Using Crowdfunding platforms to invest in Agribusiness: Managing Your Risk, organized by Leadway Assurance and supported by Agrecourse Integrated Services Ltd, Farmcrowdy Ltd and Thrive Agric.
He emphasized that Leadway covers all the risks in agriculture including retroactive policies. “In poultry insurance, Leadway is above board. For instance, even when Leadway had all the opportunity to deny claims, the company went ahead to pay claims to farmers when Kainji Dam was opened at the wrong time, adding that the insurance company “parades integrity.”
“There is kidnap and ransom insurance in Nigeria” He stated.
He lamented the absence of reliable statistics from meteorological agency, which he stated, accounts for the high risks occasioned by unexpected flooding and other natural hazards in the country’s agricultural setting. “Weather forecast is very key in mitigating risk in agriculture. However, Leadway provides the necessary covers for farmers to take advantage of” he told the audience made up of agricultural farmers.
Leadway Assurance is a foremost insurance service company with a reputation of honouring underwriting commitment
