Two Years After

OpenLife Nigeria reports that in a critical review of the 2nd anniversary of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as President of Nigeria, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, says Nigeria is still in search of direction as a result of the disappointing performance of the current government.

]His thoughts, earlier published on his Facebook wall, are reproduced below unedited

Nigeria’s democracy is at a crossroads. Two years ago, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration took office with high expectations. However, the government’s performance has been disappointing.

The administration’s priorities seem misplaced. Instead of addressing the needs and aspirations of Nigerians, it has focused on political games. Insecurity, poverty, and inflation have worsened, leaving many Nigerians struggling to survive.

The government’s policies have been criticized for targeting the poor while providing relief to the rich. The removal of fuel subsidies has had a devastating impact on the economy, and the government’s response has been inadequate.

The scale of borrowing under this administration is alarming. Nigeria’s public debt has increased significantly, and the government’s justification for new borrowing is unconvincing.

As opposition leaders, we are committed to holding the government accountable. We reject any attempt to undermine democracy and silence dissent. We will continue to fight for economic justice, political freedom, and national progress.

The future of Nigeria depends on the collective efforts of its citizens. We urge Nigerians to exercise their power and demand a better future. The right to freely choose leaders is fundamental to democracy, and we will protect it.

The SDP is working to restore hope and build confidence in Nigeria’s democracy. We will continue to speak out against government excesses and fight for the rights of Nigerians.

Nigeria’s problems are complex, but they are not insurmountable. With collective effort and determination, we can build a better future for all Nigerians.

The government’s performance has fallen short of expectations. It’s time for change. We need a government that prioritizes the needs and aspirations of Nigerians.

The opposition is united in its determination to challenge the excesses of this administration and restore accountability. We will not stand idly by while democracy is undermined.-SMG
