OpenLife Nigeria reports that former Super Eagles Coach, Bonfrere Jo and President, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Lagos, Chief Solomon Ogbonna Aguene have paid glowing tributes to late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah who died on July 27, 2024 in the United Kingdom at age 52.
Senator Ifeanyi Ubah was the Chief Executive Officer of Capital Oil, which he founded in 2001.
The Otolo, Nnewi born politician and businessman served as the Senator representing Anambra South Senatorial district between 2019 and 2024 on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
In this interview, President, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Lagos, Chief Solomon Ogbonna Aguene explains how he and former Super Eagles coach, Bonfrere Jo went to the home of the late Senator to pay glowing tributes
Sir, we learnt that you and Bonfrere Jo visited the home of late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah to pay condolence. What are your final words in form of tributes to the late Senator?
Well, the death of our hero, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah is still difficult for someone like me and so many other people he has impacted in their lives to believe.
Bonfrere Jo came to Nigeria recently for other engagements in Ogun State. He flew back to Holland and purposely returned again to Nigeria for the tributes of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah.
He called me and said “I know Ifeanyi is your good friend and you have been there for to pay a condolence visit.
“But you have to accompany me to his house for me to do the needful because I know the part Senator Ifeanyi played in my career as a coach when I was in Nigeria.”
I told Bonfrere Jo that I will accompany him with all pleasure.
Senator Ifeanyi Ubah was one Nnewi man from Anambra State, South East, Nigeria who never claimed to be superior more than anybody he feels he is better than.
He was known as a go-getter throughout his life. He never segregated himself from any one irrespective of where you come from. If you are discussing about life with him, he always acknowledged and appreciated God by telling you how he started and what he had passed through and where he was.
I wonder how many less privileged, who depended on him for their everyday life, will survive.
He was one among the most philanthropists to the less privileged in Africa and beyond.
There is a proverb in Igbo land which says that he who behaves like me is who I call my friend.
So, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah was my friend.
Senator Ifeanyi Ubah was a giver. He gave to the rich and the poor including those who are in government.
His native intelligence and natural wisdom were beyond human imagination.
For those who are saying negative things against Senator Ifeanyi Uba, whatever they are saying are null and void because he is no more and he cannot defend himself.
Whatever anybody says against Ifeanyi Ubah, I repeat is null and void.
And some who played with him on business level and complained negatively especially on social media should wait and think about his family in this early stage of mourning.
Death is inevitable.
Everybody will go in one way or the other, no matter what you are going to leave behind.
Whether the person is the richest or the poorest or the most influential, everyone must die.
If you meet him again, then, your people can continue from where you stopped on your business either in the spirit world or in Heaven.
I know that some people, because of what God has given to them, by making them rich, they don’t want to die but they want to go to heaven. But it is impossible. One has to die first.
Those who always know what killed a man, even when they are not medical doctors, will always attach one thing or the other to someone’s death.
If they don’t say the person died as a ritualist, they will say it is 419 or he died in a hotel with a woman.
But one thing must kill a man or woman.
But our hero, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah slumped in one of the streets of London when he was doing exercise with his son.
He was rushed to the hospital but could not make it according to his family members who were there in the UK.
Some of the information about how he died are coming from some people who have never travelled to any country.
They are always in the social media to create fake news.
And God knows His reason why Ifeanyi Ubah passed away. The prayers of all of us who are his friends are that Senator Ifeanyi Ubah will make Heaven.
On this note, let me send condolences message to the President and Commander-in-Chief, Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu; the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, the governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, Governor Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State who is also a close friend of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah who is known to be a Lagosian and governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State who is the current chairman of Governor Forum, South East.
I also extend condolences to one of his best friends, Friday Kujah, Soccer Ambassador.
Most importantly, I want to make this special appeal to all Igbo market leaders in Lagos State to please liaise with their members to close all the major markets in Lagos on November 22, 2024 which is the burial date of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah as a mark of honour for him as a trader which he was during his life time.
Senator Ifeanyi Ubah started as a petty trader. He served his masters and he was settled to start his own.
Before he died, he was a multi billionaire and also a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
So, his life is a testimony to many people in the world.
It means you can start with nothing and come out with something. It also means you can start miserably and end up gloriously. If you have opportunity to see and read Ifeanyi Ubah’s profile, you will think he had attained the age of 90 before he died.
But the truth is that with all those accomplishments, he was only 52 years old. With the life of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, one will begin to glorify God in everyday of his life. Ndigbo, let us honour this appeal because if it is not you today, it will be you tomorrow.
It will be another strategy to bring our unity back especially among the traders,
This honour will continue and it will become a bond among Ndigbo traders all over the world by always honouring their heroes in the highest esteem because the world knows Ndigbo as traders irrespective the height an Igbo man attains in life.
