OpenLife Nigeria reports that Chaos erupted at Kotoka International Airport in Accra as Nigerian fashion entrepreneur Toyin Lawani faced what she calls “intimidation and assault” from British Airways staff.
Lawani, who relies on a walking stick and wheelchair assistance due to a degenerative spine condition, says she was threatened with being barred from her 9:10 p.m.
flight to the UK—despite having checked in online. The reason? A video on her phone that airport staff allegedly demanded she delete.
“I can’t lift heavy things or stand for long, and shouting can actually send my body into shock,” Lawani explained. Stress, she said, worsened the situation.
According to her, staff ignored her and other passengers, closing check-in counters while still processing others.
The confusion and selective assistance sparked fury among waiting travelers.
A shocking detail emerged when Lawani’s companion recorded an incident showing staff secretly helping another passenger.
“The moment she noticed the recording, she panicked and claimed they were friends. If you’re friends, why are you secretly checking her in?” Lawani questioned.
Tempers flared
“She screamed at us, threatening that if we didn’t delete the video, I would be blocked from traveling, even if I rebooked.
I recorded her in response, and she acted as if her father owns British Airways,” Lawani said. She added that her phone was struck during the confrontation.
Witnesses backed Lawani’s account. One passenger said, “We saw her clearing other passengers in secret. It’s obvious some passengers were being locked out intentionally.
Nigerians should not be treated like this, especially someone in a wheelchair. British Airways must investigate.”
So far, the airline has not commented on the allegations.
