Things people don’t know about Sunday
OpenLife Nigeria has stumbled on salient traits and things people are unaware about Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP Sunday Erhabor, a Police officer attached to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Command , who was assaulted by one Victor Ebhomenyen at Four Point by Sheraton Hotel, Oniru on Saturday, April 17 while on duty.
The incident that led to ASP Sunday Erhabor’s assault was presented by the police in a statement signed by spokesman, Olumuyiwa Adejobi.
According to the statement, Adejobi said:
“The command has deemed it necessary and responsible to react and set the record straight on the incident that was captured in a video that went viral on the social media on Saturday, April 17, where two men were repeatedly assaulting an officer on duty and creating a scene on the road at Four Point, Oniru, Victoria Island, Lagos.
“To set the record straight, on Saturday, at about 10:30am, one ASP Erhator Sunday, and team attached to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the command, who were on a convoy movement to drop off policemen at their various beats across the state, blocked and stopped a white Hyundai SUV, MUS251EH facing the convoy on “one way”, driven by the suspect, Victor, at Four Point Hotel, Oniru, Victoria Island, Lagos.
“When the police stopped the vehicle, the occupants, one Victor Ebhomenye and Etinosa Obaywana, angrily came down, confronted and violently assaulted ASP Erhator Sunday, inflicting severe bodily injuries on him.
“The officer, who was armed with his official Ak47 riffle, displayed a high level of professionalism amidst fierce provocations by resisting the temptation of using his rifle on the suspect. The prime suspect, Victor, is in the police custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department Panti, for investigation and prosecution as and when due, while effort is on to arrest his fleeing accomplice, Etinosa, who has been identified.
“According to the provisions of the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018, the vehicle has been impounded and taken to the Lagos State Taskforce Office, Oshodi, for appropriate penalty.”
Two days after, specifically on Monday, April 19, Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, approved a meeting with the assaulted police officer alongside the State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu.
He commended Sunday Erhabor for displaying a high level of professionalism and calmness by restraining himself from taking laws into his hands, despite being assaulted while trying to arrest Ebhomenyen for driving against the traffic.Sanwo-Olu honoured him with Lagos State honour award.
Since then, other Nigerians, mostly youths who believe Sunday Erhabor deserves encouragement contributed almost a million Naira for his personal upkeep.
Elated by these developments, the ASP Erhabor, in a narrative, disclosed salient traits about him which are not known to the public.
The narrative of things people don’t know about him is presented below unedited.
“I’ve not shot a single person since I joined police in 1992.
I am always calm. I neither don’t drink nor smoke. I drank a little before but I can’t drink at all now.
“I was born in 1967 and I have just about 5 years to retirement.
“I am a core Bini man and I treat all these young boys as my children.
As he was beating me, I told my boys to retreat because they could have wasted him.
“But I told them to record it. The boy was shouting have you forgotten EndSars??? The truth is that something is wrong with the boy.
“I have never killed. My gun is to make you to fear. I was once slapped at Festac Town by a woman in the presence of her husband just because I stopped them. I only made her to slap her husband.
“I joined the Police as a constable in 1992 at Ikeja Police College. Nobody recommended me, I just joined the queue and registered. I dropped out from UNIBEN because of lack of money.
“I remarried 3 years ago because my three children have come of age. They are just like that boy that beat me up. How do I waste him?
“The governor gave me an award and we took pictures. My children are proud of me,” he narrated.
