OpenLife Nigeria reports that the Nigerian content creation community is in mourning as Iniobong Esther Louis, popularly known as Sunshine, will be laid to rest today, Wednesday, January 28, 2026, in Lagos. Sunshine’s burial arrangements were confirmed by her close friend and fellow content creator, Chidera Madu, who shared that her remains will be moved from Lagos Island General Hospital, Marina, to Atan Cemetery, Yaba, for the final rites.
Her family issued a statement expressing profound grief:
“With heavy hearts, we announce the sudden death of our beloved sister and daughter, Esther Thomas (a.k.a. Sunshine), who passed away on January 9, 2026, after an unsuccessful surgical procedure.”
Sunshine, 34, passed away following complications from fibroid surgery, leaving a void in the digital content space where she had made a name for herself.

According to Madu, Sunshine began experiencing severe abdominal pain on December 28, 2025, which escalated by New Year’s Day. She initially sought treatment at Orchid General Hospital, Lagos, but due to a doctors’ strike, she was administered only pain relief.
On January 2, she was transferred to another hospital where examinations revealed a large fibroid, necessitating urgent surgery. While the operation was initially reported as successful, Sunshine subsequently developed post-operative complications that led to her untimely death on January 9, 2026.
