Sowore Reacts To Tracy Ohiri’s Apology To Umahi

OpenLife Nigeria reports that activist Omoyele Sowore has reacted to the public apology tendered by Tracy Nicola Ohiri to the Minister of Works, Engineer Dave Umahi.

Trouble started when in early 2026, Tracy Nither Nicolas Ohiri, a businesswoman, leveled serious allegations against Nigeria’s Minister of Works, David Umahi, which included claims of a significant unpaid debt, sexual harassment, and intimidation.

However, the latest developments indicate that Tracy has apologized to the minister, leading to a resolution of the controversy.

The Allegations

Tracy Ohiri alleged that Minister Umahi owed her a sum ranging between ₦250 million and ₦304 million for promotional materials supplied for campaigns over a 12-year period.

She further claimed that the minister subjected her to sexual harassment and, upon her refusal of his advances, withheld payment and used the police for intimidation and to facilitate her arrest.

Umahi’s Response

David Umahi categorically denied all allegations, dismissing them as politically motivated and baseless fabrications designed to tarnish his reputation.

He denied knowing her in any contractual capacity, denied owing her money, and stated that the police involvement was based on a formal legal petition regarding cyberbullying, not his personal instruction.

Public and Legal Action

The case drew public attention, particularly when activist Omoyele Sowore confronted Umahi at a police facility in Abuja, alleging the misuse of state machinery against a private citizen.

Tracy was reportedly detained in Abuja, with her supporters alleging she was under duress.

Sowore and other activists rallied round her to ensure that she was not suffocated under what they described as “Government power,” a development that led to her bail and freedom even when the case remains pending in court for adjudication.

However and in a video that has surfaced online, Ohiri tendered an apology to the minister.

“I apologize to Minister Umahi for the embarrassment this allegation may have caused him and his family,” Tracy Ohiri said.

Reacting, Sowore, in a statement titled “Per TracyNither Nicolas Ohiri so-called “Apology” Video To Works Minister, David Umahi,” said:

We didn’t fight for her (Mrs. Ohiri) because we believed she was strong; we fought for her because we knew she was vulnerable and lacked the privilege needed to withstand her adversary, a powerful Nigerian minister.

Perhaps Engineer David Umahi should explain where the ₦100 million reportedly set aside to settle the matter came from, along with the video he strongly demanded be made to exonerate him from the most serious allegations and the agreement to withdraw the criminal charges.
