Soaring Tensions With US
OpenLife Nigeria reports that Russian President, Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping, on Wednesday, June 3, 2024, met at Astana city in a Central Asian summit.
The meeting has been described by industry analysts as deepening cooperation.
Astana, founded in the 8th century, was formerly known as Nur-Sultan. It is the capital city of Kazakhstan on the banks of the Ishim River in the north-central part of Kazakhstan with a population of slightly above 1.5 million.
According to information, Putin, on Wednesday, reportedly hailed the SCO at the meeting with Xi saying “one of the key pillars of a fair, multipolar world order,” and said ties between Moscow and Beijing are “experiencing the best period in their history.”
Both countries, overtime, face soaring tensions with the West and have met about 40 times.
Speaking on the meeting, Wang Wenbin, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson and Deputy director general, Department of Press, Communication and Public Diplomacy in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, said:
Facing a fluid and turbulent world and external environment, the two sides will remain steadfast in their commitment to an everlasting friendship and in their resolve to benefit their peoples.
The two countries will enrich the unique value of China-Russia relations, tap into internal drivers of cooperation, and make new efforts to protect the legitimate rights and interests of the two countries as well as the basic norms in international relations.
