Six Benefitting Councils In Okowa’s Phase 1 Community Development Scheme

Six benefitting  councils for development
OpenLife Nigeria reports that Delta State Governments said plans are underway to set up community development enterprise pilot scheme in six local government areas (LGAs) of the state.

Special Adviser to the Governor Ifeanyi Okowa on Community Enterprise Development, Hon. Akpodiogaga Emeyese, disclosed this today when he paid a courtesy call on the Chairman of Warri South Local Government Council, Dr Michael Tidi.

Emeyese, who listed the six  benefitting local government areas to include Warri South, Ika North East, Anoicha South, Ughelli North, Ethiope East and Isoko South, explained that the establishment would eventually to round the 25 LGAs.

The special adviser further explained that the purpose of the visit was to solicit the cooperation of the local government to identify the communities where the enterprise could be developed, identify the type of enterprise needed in the communities and relevant community leaders to work with.

He said that community-based enterprise was different from private enterprises, saying that it was to engage communities to participate in various enterprise such as agriculture production, cottage industries and commerce.

Hon. Emeyese said that the purpose of creating the Office of Community Enterprise Development was to bring development to the people at the community level by identifying and developing sustainable community enterprises and to to complement the Stronger Delta Agenda of the state government.

Chairman Warri South Local Government Council, Dr Michael Tidi, responding, said commended Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for his thoughtfulness in creating the office and for including Warri South in the pilot scheme.

Tidi said that the project would complement the efforts of the council in deepening investment drive and boost grassroots development in the area.

“The project is in line with why we organized the first and second Warri Economic summit, which is to deepen investment in agro allied and other socio – economic areas.

“Your coming would help break the barriers we are experiencing in establishing the palm oil plantation.

“We already have your request in place for smooth take off of the scheme in our local government,” he said.

Highpoint of the visit was the presentation of the request by the Chairman, DrTidi to the special adviser, Hon. Emeyese.
