Speaking in a recent interview with JayOnAir, Omawumi disclosed that she dated Dr Frabz from the onset of her time in the music industry.

Dagrin, born Oladapo Olaitan Olaonipekun

The singer disclosed that the song was inspired by a friend during her university days, but was only recorded years later after producer Sunday Are threatened to release it.

“I was drawn to Dr Frabz because he was such a lover of music. He could sit down, hold a guitar, and come up with different things. And that was how I was with music,” she said.

“That was how he deceived me because we actually dated. So it was the music. He will just look inside my eyes to show that he was following me.

“And because of that, I was always around his studio and his space. And he gives me the opportunity to meet a new crop of people. Most of the people that I met in the industry were through Dr Frabz. And I was so happy. He allowed me to express myself.

“I had this song in University when I was in 400 level. It was something that was inspired by a friend, and we started humming. It took a while before we voiced it until Sunday Are threatened to release the sound to the public. The song became ‘Serious love Nwatiti’.”

The ‘Magbele’ hitmaker said her time with Dr Frabz also led to a significant collaboration with Dagrin.
“That was how I met Dagrin. Dagrin forgets then that I am Itsekiri and not Yoruba. He knows that I am not. He told me he had a song just to thank God and that I would best fit in for it. I recorded the song for just one take, and I travelled,” she said.

“Dagrin was compiling a body of work. And Dr Frabz told me that DaGrin was coming to take the songs. I told him I wanted to add to it, but Dagrin said it was fine the way it was.
“When the song became a hit, I said I was going to call Dagrin for us to shoot a video until he died a few weeks later.

“There was a day he called me and said he just wanted to appreciate me, because not many people believed in him. He was my guy. We used to sit together in the hood to enjoy.”
Dagrin, born Oladapo Olaitan Olaonipekun (1984–2010), was a Nigerian rapper from Ogun State.

He pioneered Yoruba-language hip-hop with hits like “Pon Pon Pon” and album C.E.O. He died in a car accident at 25, leaving a lasting impact on Nigerian music, while Dr Frabz passed away in 2021.
