Redeemed Church Mobilizes Against Tinubu, Establishes Campaign Offices For Osinbajo Nationwide

Redeemed Church Mobilizes Against Tinubu ahead 2023

OpenLife Nigeria reports that the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), may have perfected arrangements to shore up solidarity for one of its respected members and pastor, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, who has demonstrated interest in the 2023 presidential elections.
Professor Osinbajo hails from Ogun State and had been Lagos State Commissioner of Justice for eight years in Lagos under governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu between 1999 and 2007.
His loyalty, among other factors, endeared him to the decision makers in the All Progressives Congress, APC in 2014 and he was selected to run with Muhammadu Buhari as Vice President in the 2015 general elections.
The victory attained by APC in that election is believed to have been largely influenced by the supports from Redeemed Christian Church, RCCG, led by Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, arguably, Nigeria’s most popular and influential pastor.
The church in Nigeria has huge members that can swing victory to any politician it supports.
However, as the preparations for the general elections gather momentum, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a billionaire and highly influential leader in APC announced his 2023 presidential intention.
The announced caused sharp division in the once robust and cohesive South West APC.
In no time, different individuals and groups began to align with either Tinubu or Osinbajo.
Probably sensing that Tinubu’s war chest and huge followers might create an upset on the 2023 pathway of Osinbajo, OpenLife gathered that the RCCG General Overseer, Pastor Adeboye, has decided to establish an office of Politics and Governance to “coordinate and support the engagement” of its church members “vying for political offices.”
The church, which is quoted to have been nursing the idea of using its numerical strength to produce one of its members as Nigeria’s President, disclosed this in a memo dated 28th February 2022 and signed by Pastor J. F. Odesola, assistant General Overseer, Admin Department, on behalf of Pastor Adeboye, to its pastors.
Pastor Odesola noted that the governance pastor of the church, Timothy Olaniyan (PICP Lagos Province 12) has been appointed to lead the office.
He further requested its pastors to appoint officers for the new office at all levels of the church in their various zones.
The memo reads: “We write to formally notify you that the mission authority has created the Office of Directorate of Politics and Governance in the RCCG. Further to this, Pastor Timothy Olaniyan (PICP, Lagos Province 12) has been appointed to lead the office:
“You are kindly requested to appoint with immediate effect a provincial officer for your province and also ensure that the same is done at all levels of the church zone, area and parish. The essence of this directorate is to help coordinate the engagement of our people who are willing to be involved in politics as well as mobilise support for them when required.
“Kindly send to the office of the undersigned details of your regional and provinces coordinators within the next two weeks of receiving this letter.
“May the good Lord bless you always in Jesus name, Amen”
The move, according to credible information, is aimed to support Osinbajo but in doing that, it is wise the church makes it a general affair instead of specific to avoid murmur and disunity that may arise from such decision.
