OpenLife Nigeria reports that following the final decision by Russia President, Vladimir Putin to invade Ukraine, the president of the country,
Volodymyr Oleksandrovych Zelenskyy, has assured its citizens of his preparedness to square up with Putin.
Zelenskyy, a Ukrainian politician, actor, and comedian who is the sixth and current president of Ukraine, serving since May 2019, grew up in Kryvyi Rih, a Russian-speaking region in south-east Ukraine.
Meantime, as the bombing continues, terrified Ukrainians across the country are rushing to bomb shelters as dawn broke even as air raids warnings sounded in the capital.
Broadcasting live from his phone, President Volodymyr Zelensky said he would declare nationwide martial law and urged Ukrainians to stay home.
”Don’t panic. We are strong,” he said, following a phone call with US President Joe Biden.
”We are ready for everything. We will defeat everyone. Because we are Ukraine.”
After the explosions in Kyiv died down at around 5am, residents were seen queuing in large numbers to withdraw cash from ATM terminals and also queued outside shops, waiting for them to open.
A mass exodus from Kyiv was already underway, with long queues of cars appearing on the road west, which leads to the city of Lviv.
