President Buhari Muhammadu is demonstrating a commitment to an improved standard of living for Police officers
OpenLife reports that President Buhari Muhammadu is committed to the welfare of officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force.
This was the disclosure of the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu on Tuesday in Lagos.
The Inspector-General was on -the -spot assessment of the destruction and vandalism of Police Stations orchestrated by #Endsars protesters in Lagos.
He used the occasion to reassure officers of Buhari’s administration’s commitment to improved standards of living and a conducive environment for Police officers to operate.
Among other things, the IG pointed out the 2020 Nigeria Police Bill which was signed into law by
President Muhammadu Buhari in a memo dated September 16, 2020, communicating his assent to the Bill to the National Assembly, through the Clerk of the legislature.
The Act which establishes an appropriate funding framework for the Police repeals the 2004 Police Act Cap 19 Laws of the Federation. It provides for an effective Police Force and enhances professionalism through increased training opportunities and enduring cooperation.
According to him, “The bill has been with National Assembly for a reasonable length of time. But President Buhari decided to sign it into law because of his commitment to a better policing in Nigeria,” he said.
The IG stressed further that in line with the 2020 Police Act, the Police have commenced the process of an improved salary structure that will ensure that officers and men are elevated from the poverty level.
