Police Academy, Kano, has received Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN’s intervention projects.

The projects include a 500-seater Lecture Theatre Complex, Postgraduate Hostels, ICT Centre, Forensic Laboratory, Simulated Indoor Shooting Range, among others.

Superintendent Habib Nafiu, the Academy’s public relations officer says the Academy Commandant, Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zanna Mohammed Ibrahim, mni, personally received the projects last Thursday during a handover ceremony.

The Commandant commended the CBN for its supports saying the Intervention Project would help produce a highly professional, competent and disciplined crop of Police officers.

The AIG further stated  that the project will go a long way in positively addressing some of the key challenges currently faced by the Academy while positioning it in its rightful place among other similar institutions.

“There is, therefore, no doubt that these projects have come at the right time and as a lifeline. The Academy’s long yearnings are being addressed.

DIGITALIZED TRAINING

“This will go a long way in enhancing the professional competence of the cadets, the staff of the Academy. It will also train sister agencies in the spirit of synergy and partnership benefit from the facility,” he said.

He pointed out that the Forensic Laboratory will further enhance professional competency of  Cadets in areas such as ballistics, bomb disposal, DNA Testing, autopsy, pathology and fingerprint testing.

Modern policing is intelligence-led and the role of forensic experts in modern-day policing cannot be overemphasized. With the sophistication and the complex nature of crime and criminality, it takes holistic expertise to unravel most crimes.

Thus, the establishment of a forensic laboratory will further enhance the professional competency of our Cadets. Our Cadets will now be specialists in ballistics, bomb disposal, DNA Testing, autopsy, pathology and fingerprint testing amongst others.

“Also, we are working on presenting credible personnel to be trained to effectively and efficiently handle the ICT facilities. The shooting range and the forensic laboratory require technical and specialized skills, ” he noted.

He stated further that the iconic projects have given the Academy an International outlook.

While expressing gratitude to the CBN for the laudable gesture, he challenged other corporate institutions and good-spirited Nigerians to follow suit.

POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES

The Commandant, however, explained that with the CBN supports, the academy is now fully matured to commence postgraduate programmes.

“Recently, the Police Academy received full accreditation for 15 courses. With the positive outcome of the last accreditation, the Academy is now fully mature to commence postgraduate programmes. We are introducing some core policing courses. As soon as it commences, it will be a source of Internally Generated Revenue for the Academy.”
