At least 49 persons have been killed by suspected bandits in Goronyo area of Sokoto State.
The bloodbath occurred late Sunday night.
The assailants attacked the market in large numbers opened fire and killed several persons.
The bandits rounded up several villagers and shot them dead.
Several residents have fled the community following the insecurity in the area.

To curb the rising insecurity and banditry, the government ordered the shutdown of telecommunications services in some parts of the state.
Earlier this month, at least 19 traders were killed by bandits who raided a weekly market at Unguwan Lalle in the Sabon Birni Local Government Area of the state.
The attack also left several others injured, the majority of whom were taken to the General Hospital, Sabon Birni, for treatment.
