Peter Obi To Be Suspended Next Week—Labour Party Chieftain

Peter Obi To Be Suspended Next Week

OpenLife Nigeria reports that a chieftain of Labour Party has disclosed that Mr. Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of Labour Party will be suspended from the party next week “except any last minute change of the plan.”

The party leader who spoke to OpenLife Thursday afternoon emphasized the recognition of the Julius Abure led faction of the party by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, saying that Peter Obi and his group have to be sent out of the party for peace to reign.

“Abure has the power. He is the one recognized by INEC. He can suspend any one in the party if the member is found wanting. There is no peace in our party because of Peter Obi. We need peace to be able to re organize the party.

“Plans have already been concluded to suspend Peter Obi next week,” the party leader who did want his name mentioned stated.

Technically, recent checks indicate that the electoral body has recognized the faction led by Julius Abure, officially listing him and Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim as the National Chairman and National Secretary, respectively.

At the moment, the duo of Lamidi Apapa and Senator Nenadi Usman, are parading themselves as chairmen.
The caretaker team led by the former Minister of Finance was at the instance of Abia State Governor, Alex Otti and LP presidential candidate, Mr. Obi.

Already, Abure has suspended governor Otti and other members from the party.

Meantime, Supreme Court had last April overturned an earlier ruling by the Court of Appeal that had recognised Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the party.

The apex court held that the appeal court lacked jurisdiction over internal party matters.

In his own interpretation of the verdict, Abure has insisted that the apex court did not ask him to vacate office.

But faulting Abure’s claim to the seat of national chairman, Governor Otti, accompanied by the LP presidential candidate had visited the INEC headquarter in Abuja last April and presented Certified True Copy of the apex court judgment to the Commission.
