Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, former president of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, and senior pastor of the Word of Life Bible Church in Warri, Delta state, in a church service, captured in a video, asked members to pay $5000 for mantle.
In a video link, http://www.hosannatimes.com, early unveiled by Star Weekly, Ayo was heard admonishing the congregation to stand on the feet and come forward for the donation or “miss God”
The video has gone viral on social media with corresponding anylyses and criticism.
In the video, the pastor requested 90 members at a church in the United States, Morris Cerullo, to pay $5000, equivalent of N1.8 million each, for mantle.
Oritsejafor had undergone Theology training at Morris Cerullo’s School of Ministry (El Cortez), San Diego, California in 1979.
He told the congregation that they would miss God if they not do so.
“I have 90 mantle. This is what I want you to do. I want 90 persons to come out with $5000 each for the 90 mantle.” Oritsejafor commanded.
However, when he observed the congregation was not moved, he added ” I know you have been giving. If you believe I am a man of God and I am not doing this out of my own will, get out of your seat now and come forward. Don’t miss God now, don’t miss God now. Not now, not now,” he ordered.
Known as Ayodele Joseph Oritsegbubemi Oritsejafor aka Papa Ayo Oritsejafor, he is the founding and Senior Pastor of Word of Life Bible Church, located in Warri, Nigeria. He became the national president of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) on 7 February 2005, a position he held for five years.
In July 2010, Oritsejafor was elected President of the Christian Association of Nigeria(CAN), the apex body of all Christians in Nigeria. Indeed, he became the first Pentecostal leader to hold the position.
Christian records have it that Oritsejafor was the first to launch a Miracle crusade from Africa to a world audience via satellite in 1987 with evangelist Joe Martins.
Oritsejafor sees himself as a servant of God and an instrument through which the God ministers to the spiritual and physical needs of people. He places emphasis on salvation, repentance, holiness, deliverance and empowerment of the less privileged, through social responsibility programmes.
