Pastor Shyngle Wigwe Never Sought 20% Of Late Herbert Wigwe’s Estate, Family Clarifies

Pastor Shyngle Wigwe Never Sought 20%

OpenLife Nigeria reports that the family of late Herbert Wigwe has denied requesting 20 percent of the estate of the late banker as reported in some sessions of the media.

The denial came in the wake of reports in the media that a contentious legal battle has emerged over the execution of the Will of the former Group Managing Director of Access Holdings

Herbert Wigwe passed away in a helicopter crash in the United States on February 9, 2024, leaving behind a family and enormous wealth.

Reports in the public space indicated that Herbert Wigwe’s parents have filed a caveat at the Probate Registry, seeking to challenge the distribution of his estate as outlined in his will.

The caveat was reportedly filed under the direction of Pastor Shyngle Wigwe, Herbert’s father, and supported by an affidavit from Christian Chukwuka Wigwe, who claims to be Herbert’s cousin.

According to stories, the caveat allegedly aims to alter the directives set forth by the deceased regarding the administration of his estate.

Reports said Pastor Shyngle Wigwe has requested that 20% of Herbert’s estate be allocated to him and other family members, a move that contradicts Herbert’s will, which stipulates that his wealth be distributed solely among his children.

The will was lodged at the Ikeja Probate Court prior to Herbert’s untimely passing.
Reacting, the family, through a statement signed by Emeka Wigwe, described the reports as false.

Below is the statement:

We, the family of Pastor Shyngle Wigwe, wish to formally address two recent articles — one titled ‘Family Dispute Erupts Over Estate of Late Banking Executive, Herbert Wigwe’ and another titled ‘Herbert Wigwe’s Estate: Parents File Caveat to Disinherit Children,’ both published on October 13, 2024.

These reports, unfortunately, have gained significant traction across both social and national media.

While we respect the role of the press in disseminating news, such reports must be based on truth and accuracy.

To clarify, Pastor Shyngle Wigwe has never sought 20% of the Estate of the late Herbert Wigwe, and no such request has been made by any family member.

The claim in these reports that Pastor Shyngle Wigwe intended to disinherit his grandchildren is entirely false and grossly misleading.

As a devoted Christian and loving father, Pastor Shyngle Wigwe has always prioritised the well-being and unity of his family.

Any assertions to the contrary are not only unfounded but also misrepresent his values and intentions.

The facts concerning the Estate of the late Herbert Wigwe are clearly outlined in the Probate Registry, Lagos where an affidavit containing the correct details is publicly available.

A basic fact check or inquiry at the registry would have revealed this truth, preventing the spread of baseless narratives.

During this painful period of grief, our family remains focused on healing and growing stronger together.

We are not interested in engaging in public disputes or rebuttals, as there are no sides to take — only the simple truth that we are all navigating an immeasurable loss with grace and dignity.

Herbert Wigwe’s lasting legacy as a visionary banker and entrepreneur is what should be remembered.

His transformation of Access Bank into a financial powerhouse and his philanthropic work, particularly through The HOW Foundation, which emphasises education and healthcare, are the true reflections of his life.

These values and contributions should be celebrated, not overshadowed by inaccurate and harmful speculation.

In light of the seriousness of this matter, we respectfully urge all those who are concerned with preserving the good legacy of Herbert Wigwe to fact-check stories before publication.

The consequences of publishing misinformation can be extremely damaging to the reputation of the family and the cherished legacy Herbert left behind.

Sincerely,

Emeka Wigwe,

For the family of Pastor Shngle Wigwe
