OpenLife Nigeria reports that a fiery exchange has erupted online between Dr. Kevin M. Young, American pastor and author, and Pere Egbi, Nigerian‑American actor and former Big Brother Naija contestant, over LGBTQ+ issues and biblical interpretation.
Dr. Young sparked the debate with a tweet:

“Being LGBTBQ+ isn’t a sin, nor does the Bible ever say it is. You cannot ‘repent’ of your sexual orientation because you did not choose it, nor can you change it.
God loves you the way God themself created you.”

Egbi fired back with a strongly contrasting viewpoint:

“Being LGBTBQ+ is a sin as other sins. It’s not a greater sin nor is it a lesser sin. God did not create a man for another man nor a woman for another woman.

He didn’t make a man to be with other men. And to prove my point, it was for this same reason he destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.

When you speak out against homosexuality and lesbianism and transgender practices, those who love it tell you ‘well so is fornication’. And they’re right. Truthfully so. But that’s the reason Jesus came to die, and rose from the dead so we don’t have to die, and rose from the dead so we don’t have to keep subjecting ourselves to the elements of these wrong doings.”

The exchange has since gone viral, igniting widespread discussion about sexuality, sin, and scriptural interpretation, and revealing the deep divide within Christian communities over LGBTQ+ acceptance.
