Oshiomhole for 2023
OpenLife Nigeria reports that in what seems like preparations for 2023 general elections, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, former President, Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, may have decided to begin early preparations to deliver.
Indications towards this emerged on Thursday, August 2 when the former governor decided to test his popularity, once again, on the streets of Benin.
He had, earlier, paid condolence visit to the family of late Sir Victor Uwaifo who died recently at the age of 80 with his retinue of aides.
Condolence visit over, the immediate past national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, alighted from his car on Oba Akenzua Street to patronize roasted corn sellers.
His presence elicited joy on the street and many trooped out to catch a glimpse of the onetime governor who was believed to have been politically liquidated by Governor Godwin Obaseki in the 2020 governorship contest in Edo.
The obviously happy roasted corn sellers were seen in a video, on Chris Osa Media Group Facebook wall, jumping and dancing over the once-a-while patronage.
As it is common in such instances, especially when political consideration is the hallmark of the patronage, Adams Oshiomhole must have paid huge sums for the few he bought for himself and aides.
Interestingly, buying roasted corn by the roadside has become a common feature with Adams Oshiomhole.
Over the years, he has entrenched that style as a benchmark to symbolize his fraternity with the downtrodden in the State.
In countless elections, either for himself or APC candidates, Adams Oshiomhole had been seen eating roasted corn on the streets.
On each occasion, the sellers, passers-by and indeed, any person in the surrounding often benefit financial gains from the man popularly called Comrade.
Meanwhile, events in the past months in the APC where Oshiomhole is a major stakeholder, are indicative that the party is weighing the option of zoning its presidential slot to the South.
Taking full advantage of the ebbing presidential interest of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a result of endless off-and-on hospital experience, Oshiomhole’s key loyalists are said to have hatched the plan to fill the slot.
The all-encasing argument, OpenLife gathered, is that the South-South deserves to complete Jonathan’s incomplete 2nd tenure.
The governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, OpenLife further gathered, has been assigned the arrowhead of the syndicate to whittle down any uprising and agitation from the easterners for the top job.
The plan, OpenLife gathered fits since Uzodinma’s only 2023 interest is a return to the Douglas Government House in Owerri.
Besides the seeming merits the South-South argument would throw up, Adams Oshiomhole, our source narrated, would sell very well in the north.
“Remember, he grew up there. He lived all his life in Kaduna. He speaks Hausa language very well and he understands their culture and traditions. He has lots of governors in his kitty who will do anything to ensure Adams Oshiomhole wins.
“Outside Tinubu, there is no one in the entire South, comprising South West, South-South and southeast that can compete with Oshiomhole for the APC Presidential ticket.
“But you know he is Tinubu’s friend. And from all indications, Tinubu might not run because of his health. Once that is cleared and okayed, Oshiomhole would step into the rig.
“As we speak, it is not that Buhari has given his nod. Oshiomhole’s friends who are close to Baba are working on that,” an APC Reps member told OpenLife in confidence Thursday evening.
The 2023 presidential election is expected to hold on February 18, 2023.
