Adekunle Omobolaji, Open Life correspondent in Ogun State, has emerged Treasurer in the reconstituted Ogun State National Union of Journalists, NUJ, Federated Chapel. Her emergence stems from unanimous decision by members anchored on her unassailable traits of trust, honesty, professionalism, commitment to truth and fear of God. Earlier on Monday, November 11, members of Federated Chapel had dissolved the Niyi Adeloye-led executive council of the chapel over gross misconduct and financial impropriety.
The members, rising from their monthly Congress accused the former executive of defrauding the State NUJ council of check-off dues paid to him by members. According to the aggrieved members, the sum of N92,000 was paid to him as check-off dues, but only N42,000 was paid to the State Council without cogent explanation on the disappearance of N50,000. The members also frowned at the dissolved executives’ failure to call the statutory monthly congress in the last two years which according to them was against Article 5, Section D, sub-section 7 (a) and (b) of the NUJ constitution. They however, constituted a three-man caretaker committee headed by Olamilekan Jaji as Chairman, Sunkanmi Akinlotan as Secretary and Adekunle Omobolaji as Treasurer. The Congress therefore called on the dissolved executive to hand over property of the chapel to the caretaker committee within seven days.
Adekunle, a crack reporter with sound intelligence in investigation, has broken many exclusive stories published in OpenLife, a development that has endeared the pan African news magazine to the who is who in the business and political circles in Nigeria.
