Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde Says She Won’t Dance For Movie Promotion

OpenLife Nigeria reports that veteran Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has taken a firm stand against the growing trend of actors dancing on social media to promote their films.

In a recent interview, she made it clear that while she loves dancing, she will not perform it as a marketing tool.

“I’m sorry, I would not be doing the dancing. I’m very, very sorry. It’s just not me.
I dance. I love to dance, I’m sure a lot of us love to dance,” Omotola said, emphasizing that her enjoyment of dance is personal and not a promotional obligation.

The actress explained that the problem is not with dancing itself, but with why it is being done.

“I think the problem and the reason why a lot of people are kicking back at it is because you want to dance because you feel like it, not because you have to,” she noted, highlighting the difference between natural fun and forced marketing trends.

Omotola stressed the importance of professionalism in the film industry.

“But when it becomes a chore, when it becomes, oh, this is what you have to do to even sell a movie, it’s not professional. I already did the project.

You know, I should go around, you know, talk about the project, promote the project, and then let the people whose job it is to distribute and advertise handle that,” she said.

According to the Nollywood icon, actors should focus on their craft delivering authentic performances while marketing and distribution should be handled by trained professionals.

She believes that forcing creatives into viral dance trends or social media stunts detracts from the essence of storytelling and undervalues the actor’s role in the filmmaking process.
