Okey Bakassi Offers ₦5 Million Reward Following Phone Theft Incident In Ikoyi
OpenLife reports that what began as a routine football gathering in Ikoyi quickly turned into a troubling incident, leaving several players stunned after their phones were reportedly stolen in broad daylight.
Nigerian entertainer Okey Bakassi recounted how the situation unfolded during one of their regular matches.
According to him, a young man approached the group and asked to be allowed to join the game.
Given the relaxed and welcoming nature of their sessions, it wasn’t unusual for unfamiliar faces to be included, so no one raised concerns at the time.
Things, however, took an unexpected turn shortly after the match began.
The newcomer reportedly excused himself from the pitch and moved toward the sidelines, where players had kept their personal belongings.
Within a short period, he allegedly gathered multiple mobile phones estimated to be about eight and left the area unnoticed.
By the time the players realized what had happened, the suspect was already gone.
The incident has since been reported, and efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend the individual responsible.
In a bid to speed up the search, Bakassi made a public appeal, calling on anyone with the expertise to assist in tracking the stolen devices.
He offered a substantial reward, saying:
“For everyone else who knows how to track phones, contact me, there is 5million naira waiting for you, contact me in my DM.”
The incident has raised fresh concerns about security, even in seemingly controlled and familiar environments.
