Odeyemi Afolabi

;

OpenLife Nigeria reports that a public affairs analyst and regional spokesman for Jehovah’s Witnesses, Odeyemi Afolabi, has lent his voice to the alarm raised by the World Health Organization, WHO, on violence against women.

WHO, has said, by estimates, that almost one in three women—approximately 736 million people—experiences physical or verbal abuse in their lifetime.

According to the global health body, this is happening despite the fact that many governments have ratified legislation designed to protect women’s safety, women remain vulnerable to acts of violence worldwide.

Sadly, emerging data indicates that the rate of violence against women only intensified during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Reacting, Odeyemi Afolabi said: “This is a global crisis that affects not just women, but also families and communities.”

He added that “Women’s safety should be a concern to all.”

He disclosed that in this May 2024, an article titled “Women’s Safety—The Bible’s Perspective” has been published and trending on jw.org, the official website of Jehovah’s Witnesses, as a free resource to women who have experienced violence and need healing and support.

Quoting from the scriptures, Odeyemi emphasized God’s view of women:

“The Bible offers so much hope for victims of violence.

“It is hoped that women who have been victims of any form of violence can truly find relief from real hope and comfort that the Bible provides, feeling more cherished, valued, and supported.”
