Obaseki cannot manage a 24-Member Assembly let alone a State—Hosa Okunbo

Obaseki cannot manage a 24-Menber Assembly. So how can he manage a State? This is the poser of Captain Hosa Okunbo, Chairman, Ocean Marine Solution.

The Bini Prince made this observation in an interview with Punch Newspaper.

His interrogation is coming against the back drop of the on-going governorship election in Edo State.

Okunbo disclosed that he supports the All Progressives Congress candidate in the September 19 governorship election in Edo State, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu. The reason stems from his conviction  that the party will work to develop the state.

Despite his stance, Okunbo admits that he is a very close person to Governor Obaseki. He however, maintains that the governor should not be allowed to get a second term.

“I still consider Godwin my brother. But I don’t consider him a leader because he doesn’t have the attributes of a good leader. ”

In the interview, Okunbor queries the rationale behind Obaseki’s re election intentions.

OBASEKI’S WEAKNESS

Said he:  “This is  governor that could not manage 24 House of Assembly members from his own party, APC. They are not in opposition. Some of us worked to make that possible for him so that he could have a smooth ride but he squandered the chance.

“It’s only unfortunate that Osagie Ize-Iyanmu, who also contested against him in 2016, is out there. I am supporting him by default and of course, I want a better Edo State and that’s all I can say.”

Okunbo accused Obaseki of non-performance. He enthused that most of the lofty ideas he floated before his 2016 election remain on paper without being fulfilled. Obaseki has only sustained himself in office through propaganda.

He stated, “If Godwin presents to you his plans for Edo State on PowerPoint, you will kiss his feet. It is like the Biblical devil that said take all these and bow before me. But Jesus outsmarted him saying said, ‘Get thee behind me Satan.’ And as we progressed, all those packages that he presented, none was done

“I learnt most of them are on paper and they continue to be on paper. Consultancy services attached to most of them. Of course, as we speak, most of those projects are not on the ground. So, for me, I can’t be deceived. Some can be deceived, but I cannot.

“We have  a situation where over 600 children are packed in a room. Their jobs are to sell propaganda on social media of projects that are not there? It is appalling.

“It is the future of our children that is at stake. The liberation of our state from someone who thinks he is an emperor in this modern day is at stake.”

THE GENESIS

Okunbo narrated the genesis of Obaseki’s fierce battle against his business interest. He anchored Obaseki’s anxiety on the rumour that he was going for the governorship.

He said, “A lot of people approached me to run for Edo governorship.

I told them I wasn’t interested because I have set a trajectory for my life. Over the past 32 years, I have been involved in business and before that, I was a very good professional pilot.

“At 63, my mates that ran for governorship did that in 1999.  I am not ready to start learning new things. Obaseki can also not learn new things at an old age. I tried to help him for that reason.”

Okunbo explained that he warned Obaseki to settle the rift between him and his predecessor, Adams Oshiomhole.

He said Obaseki refused to listen to him and follow the line of peace, adding that the governor rather warned him to steer clear of the raging battle or suffer “a collateral damage.”
