No Electricity, No Inspiration: Sarz Opens Up On Nigeria’s Creative Struggle
Renowned music producer and industry heavyweight Osabuohien Osaretin, popularly known as Sarz, is shining a light on a challenge that’s long plagued Nigeria’s creative scene: unreliable electricity.
In a candid chat on the Afropolitan podcast, Sarz revealed how frequent power outages can derail a creative’s momentum, turning bursts of inspiration into missed opportunities.
The popular music maestro shared a personal experience: despite spending his entire life in Nigeria, he has never enjoyed a full day of uninterrupted electricity.
“I grew up here, and I’ve never had electricity all day, every day. Sometimes I wake up full of ideas and ready to make music, but there’s no power.
Even simple tasks like buying fuel can be complicated due to strikes or shortages. You end up accomplishing nothing, and your potential goes to waste,” he explained.
Sarz emphasized that a creative mind thrives in a conducive environment, and the lack of basic infrastructure can be a major roadblock.
“To perform at your best, a creative mind needs the right environment. When basic infrastructure is missing just when your mind is ready, it becomes a huge obstacle,” he added.
The producer argued that fixing Nigeria’s infrastructure isn’t just about comfort it’s a critical step for unlocking the full potential of the country’s booming entertainment industry, which continues to face hurdles due to these fundamental issues.
