Nigerian Newspapers: 10 things you need to know this Monday morning

Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:

 

1. Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo  will today declare his intention to run for the 2023 presidential election. He revealed his decision while hosting some Northern APC governors to an Iftar dinner at his residence on Sunday evening.

2. The Chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of the Gwagwalada Area Council of the FCT was shot dead on Sunday by bandits who attacked him on his way after conducting a business transaction. Also killed along with the Chairman were three of his members who were with him.

3. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released results for the  2022 UTME Mock Exam which was written on Saturday, April 9.

4. Gunmen on Sunday set the residence of the Commissioner for Justice and the Attorney General of Imo State, Cyprian Akaolisa, on fire. The assailants also destroyed his father’s house in Obibi, Awo-Idemili, Orsu Local Government Area of the state.

5. The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) said Nigerians whose Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) cards are barred from making calls, that affected SIMs will not be unbarred by the service providers until they are linked with the National Identification Numbers (NIN) of the SIM holders.

6. Favour Made, Osinachi Nwachukwu’s sister and first daughter of the family has confirmed reports that the singer died as a result of domestic violence. She revealed that Osinachi passed on as a result of a cluster of blood in the chest, not throat cancer. She said the late suffered from a blood clot after the kicking she received from her husband, Peter Nwachukwu who has now been arrested in Abuja.

7. The Kaduna State Government on Sunday denied knowledge of a video circulated on social video showing security operatives parading arrested bandits in the Chikun Local Government Area. The State Government said it has not received feedback from security agencies regarding any such operation.

8. Nigerian music star, Mr. Eazi, has engaged his girlfriend, Temi Otedola, daughter of Femi Otedola. Temi made the announcement on her Twitter page on Sunday. Reacting to the proposal, Otedola via his Instagram handle wrote, “Somebody is taking my baby.”

9. The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has debunked the rumoured death of the Statistician of the Federation, Simon Harry. The Bureau in a statement stated that there is no iota of truth in what was published by an online medium, while describing the publication as irresponsible noting that journalism ethics require that journalist checks the fact and be sure of the veracity of their information before publishing.

10. The Federal Government says it is difficult to fight bandits because of the terrain in which they operate. Alhaji Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information and Culture, said this when he featured on a Bond FM programme at the weekend.
