Nigerian Correctional Centre has reopened Okere road in Warri, Delta State
OpenLife Nigeria has learned that motorists plying Okere Road, Warri now have cause to rejoice as the authorities of the Nigerian Correctional Centre (Nigerian Prisons) have reopened Okere Road, Warri.
Both lanes of the road were closed by the Nigerian Correctional Centre for security reasons after the facility was attacked during the EndSARS protests in Warri.
The closure caused serious problem to vehicular movements, Okere Road being a major link between the western and eastern parts of Warri Urban.
The alternate roads of Esisi and Ogboru were difficult to access because they were not motorable enough to contain the volume of traffic caused by the closure of Okere Road mostly during rush hours.
Renovation works were being done at the main gate of the Nigerian Correctional Centre as at the time of filling this report.
Unconfirmed report has it that a new main gate would be built at the back of the Correctional Centre while the present main gate would be blocked as a solution to the closure of Okere Road owing to security reasons.
Elsewhere in Enerhen Junction area in Uvwie Local Government Area, it was a different story as motorists accessing Effurun-Sapele Road by Enerhen to Water Resources areas were having hectic time owing to the rehabilitation of the road.
Some of those who spoke to our correspondent called for the speedy completion of the project.
While others suggested that the rehabilitation should be done at a period when it would not inconvenient road users, one of the respondence, a commercial tricycle (keke) rider, Fred Amaike, complained that accessing the road during working or rush hours was time consuming.
“Though government should be commended for the rehabilitation of the road but we are facing serious traffic jam. Time is money. They should be told to be doing their work at late night. That was how the beautiful project of Enerhen Junction was done,” Amaike said.
