President Bola Tinubu, in his Nigeria @ 66 Independence Day broadcast, attributed the hardship facing millions of Nigerians to failures accumulated over decades by past governments
OpenLife News reports that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has blamed decades of past governments’ failures for the current hardship facing millions of Nigerians, saying the challenges cannot be corrected within four years.
In his 66th Independence Day broadcast to the nation on Wednesday, October 1, Tinubu admitted that many Nigerian families are still struggling to survive despite his administration’s reforms.
The President said millions of citizens still struggle for their next meal, school fees, medical bills and transportation to work.
“I am also conscious that millions of our fellow citizens cannot wait for tomorrow. Some Nigerian families still struggle today for the next meal, the next school fees, the next medical bill or simply finding enough money to get to work,” he said.
Tinubu said their circumstance did not begin with the reforms introduced in the last three years.
According to him, the struggle Nigerians are facing today is the accumulated consequence of decades of low productivity, inadequate infrastructure, insufficient opportunity and institutions that too often failed those who need them most.
“We cannot erase in four years what accumulated over generations but we can change its course,” the President stated.
He assured that his administration is focused on building an economy that will steadily lift people out of poverty while ensuring that the vulnerable are not abandoned along the way.
