OpenLife Nigeria reports that a Lagos businessman, Chinedu Okafor trading under the name and style of Sky Blue Company, alleged to have been manufacturing unwholesome products to with: Eagle Aromatic Schnapps and other sundry products, has been arraigned before a Federal High Court in Lagos by NAFDAC.
In an eight count charge filed before the court by the National Agency for Food Drug and Administrative Control, NAFDAC Prosecuting counsel, Barrister B.Simon,it was stated in the charge that Chinedu Okafor, Male, 40 Years old, of No. 4, 1″ MTN Road, Badagry, Lagos on or about the 26th April, 2024, at the above named address, within the jurisdiction of the Court, was found in possession of unwholesome processed food to wit:-Apple Multi-fruit Juice Wine, Eagle Aromatic Schnapps and Lord’s Gin and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1(c) of the Counterfeit and Fake Drug and Unwholesome Processed Food (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, Cap. C34, Law of Federation, 2004 and punishable under Section 3 of the same Act.
Chinedu Okafor, same time and place was also alleged to have manufactured processed food to wit:-Apple Multi-fruit Juice Wine, Eagle Aromatic Schnapps and Lord’s Gin, without registration and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1(1) of the Food,Drugs and Related Products (Registration, ETC) Act, Cap. F33, LFN, 2004 and punishable under Sections 6 and 8 of the same Act.
The defendant was also alleged to have engaged in distribution of the unwholesome products manufactured by him. The unwholesome products was alleged to have been manufactured under unsanitary condition.
The defendant pleaded not guilty.
Consequently, the presiding Judge,Justice Lewis Allagoa,while adjourning till 10th of July,2024 for the trial of the defendant to commence, ordered that the defendant should be remanded in the custody of Correctional Services.
