Kannywood Actress Samha Inuwa Sentenced To Six Months For Naira Damage
OpenLife Nigeria reports that a Federal High Court in Kano has sentenced Saadatu Mohammed Inuwa, popularly known as Samha Inuwa, to six months in prison for damaging the Nigerian currency.
Justice S.M. Shuaibu delivered the judgment after Inuwa admitted guilt to a single count charge that she tampered with a ₦1,000 note by soiling it with her nose an act found to violate the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007.
Inuwa asked the judge for leniency, stating she had no prior convictions and expressed regret for her actions.
The court sentenced her to six months’ imprisonment, but gave her the option to pay a fine of ₦200,000 instead of serving jail time.
The case drew attention after a viral social media video showed Inuwa using naira notes in a manner deemed abusive.
Nigerian law strictly prohibits defacing or mutilating currency, with penalties designed to protect the integrity of the naira.
