ISWAP commander, Mohammed Yusuf killed (PHOTO)

Mohammed Yusuf, the son of Goni Maina who was named after the founder of Boko Haram, has been confirmed dead during the recent Nigerian military air strikes at Bukar Mairam, in the Marte Local Government Area (LGA) of Borno State, on the western coast of Lake Chad.

Yusuf was holding the position of Commander “Rijal Amne” in Marte.

The boy’s father, Maina, was the former commander (governor of the Lake Chad) of the terrorist group, the Islamic State of West Africa (ISWAP). Maina was killed on December 1 2020 in an air raid jointly conducted by the Nigerian Army and the Air Force.

The air raid at the time also led to the elimination of more than 100 insurgents, “including several high-ranking insurgents’ commanders, foot soldiers and Hisbah police from the ISWAP faction, late Abubakar Shekau faction and foreign mercenaries”.

Since January, sustained airstrikes on terrorists’ enclaves in the northwest and northeast regions by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) aircrafts have killed high-profile terrorists’ leaders and their foot soldiers in Katsina State.

Authorities insist that strikes against terrorist elements will continue for as long as they continue to pose threats to peace-loving Nigerians.
