Igbo indigenes residing in Ota area of Ogun State have formed a socio-cultural group known as “Nwanne Di Na Mba.”
The Association which comprises Igbo residents, particularly males living in areas spanning Iju axis to Atan area of Ota was inaugurated on April 19, 2020.
The meeting which held at Cardo Restaurant, by President Paints bus stop in Idedo area of Ota, was massively attended, by both Igbo landlords and tenants living in the area.
Speaking on the formation of the group, acting President of the association, Chief John Obiakor said that the group was formed to form a common ground for peaceful coexistence and cooperation among the Igbos living in the area and also to extend such gesture to their host community.
Chief Obiakor said “this meeting is very important, in that when it is properly established, it will form a common ground for peaceful coexistence and cooperation among the Igbos living in the area which we will also extend to the host community”.
Chief Obiakor said that, with the association, it will be easier for both the Igbo landlords and their host community to cooperate more effectively.
He equally advised all Igbos living in the area to be of good behavior and also avoid anything that could bring reproach to the communities.
In his remarks, interim Vice President of the association, Mr Kingsley Ewuzie thanked all those who are behind the association, assuring that the exco will do everything to see that the association moves forward.
Mr Ewuzie said, that beyond peaceful coexistence in the community, the association is also out to address the welfare of members whenever the need arises.
The VP advised members to always be punctual at the meeting, just as he urged them to invite other Igbos living in the area who may not have heard about the gathering.
General Secretary of the association, Mr Anthony Awunor expressed optimism that the group will surely improve the relationship between Igbos living in the area and their host community.
Awunor applauded the founding fathers who mooted the idea of such gathering at this period.
