Arising from his determination to enthrone professionalism into Nigerian police operations in line with global best practices, the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, in less than 48 hours, has identified persons involved in a dehumanizing attitude towards a lady who was allegedly arrested alongside her boy friend for crimes against the state.
The dehumanizing action was captured in a video that went viral.
According to a statement signed on July 23 by DCP Frank Mba, Force Public Relations Officer, “The Nigeria Police Force have identified three police officers and one civilian accomplice who participated in the unprofessional act of dehumanizing treatment of a female citizen as shown in a viral video on Wednesday, 22nd July, 2020.”
The statement added that “Two suspects, ASP Tijani Olatunji and Inspector Gboyega Oyeniyi have been arrested for their role in the discreditable conduct and incivility to a member of the public. They are currently being detained at the Lagos State CID detention facility, Panti, Yaba.”
While the police further disclosed that preliminary investigations show that the policemen who are attached Area ‘A’ Command, Lion Building, Lagos, were on legitimate investigation activities to Ibadan, Oyo State where the incident took place, the Inspector General has vowed to initiated “Appropriate disciplinary procedure will be as soon as investigations are concluded.”
Meanwhile, effort is being intensified to arrest the two other accomplices, said the statement.
